Little Pumpkins Nursery & Pre-Primary

During children’s time at Little Pumpkins Pre-School children are taking the first steps in their schooling.   The learning experience must reflect their stage of development to ensure maximum benefit.   Our continuous provision and learning environment support children’s education and development as follows:

  • Providing an environment where the learning is of the child’s choice unique to the child’s individual learning style
  • Modelling, reflection and talk to embed understanding, continuing communication and vocabulary extension
  • Enabling environment; encompassing the development of the child as a whole – social, emotion and physical
  • Supporting the development of skills and extension of knowledge
  • The use and application of knowledge, skills and understanding in familiar and new situations
  • Differentiation for children at different stages and levels of development
  • A range of child-led activities to inform staff of learning behaviour and understanding

We recognise that:

  • Practitioners encourage children to communicate to questions and explore answers through first hand learning experiences. Through sensitive questioning the children will be encouraged to think deeply and to extend their learning.
  • Practitioners model good language and communication skills to encourage children to participate in role play activities and scenarios which will stimulate and excite their imagination. Practitioners may need to play a particular role in order to encourage less confident children to become involved.
  • The children are encouraged to be independent learners, following their own interests, accessing their own resources and helping to keep their learning environment tidy.
